The Black Swan-Calgary

Bangers and MashOn holiday Monday my husband and I had the pleasure of spending the day together sans kids. I will admit we missed the little monkeys, but they were off having a great time with their Grandparents so we had a date! We couldn’t decide what movie to go to, so since we didn’t have kids for the whole day we took in a matinée and an evening show. It was fun! We started with The Dark Knight Rises, excellent end to the trilogy. The evening show was The Amazing Spider-man, we really liked that one too. We went for dinner at The Black Swan (cuz I love me some pub food), it was really quiet, the waitress informed us long weekends are really slow there, so we got to enjoy a lovely quiet dinner for two. We also enjoyed some dart playing, so overall it was a really fun day. The Black Swan’s menu had lots to choose from, I really had a hard time making a decision, so I went with an old British classic, the bangers and mash. The mashed potatoes and gravy were the best part of the meal, in fact hubs kept stealing some of my plate. Everything was great, we both really enjoyed our meals.

May Favorites- 2012

Autumn at the Farmers MarketSummer vacation is here, all our homeschooling is done! Yahoo! Today marks the first day of summer break, and dare I say it, next year my oldest will be in grade 7. Yes that is right folks, we have entered Junior High! What craziness is this??Any way , I will let my “I can’t believe I have a child in Junior high” crisis wait until the fall, for now we can talk about really good food! Here are the favorites for the month of May!

German Chocoalte CakeBest Baking- This was a hard one to pick, we had a lot of extraordinary baking this month but for the absolute best I am going to have to go with The German Chocolate Cake that we had way at the beginning of the month. Yum, I think I am ready to make another one!

Bacon and Cheese StrataBest Cooking- This Bacon and Cheese Strata was not only one of my favorite brunch recipes of all time, but it also tasted really good leftover. This is good, generally I like to have leftovers for my lunch, this was a perfect breakfast, lunch, even dinner, you really can serve this whenever you choose!

Ginger BeefBest Dining Out- Easy Peasy. Definitely The Coach and Horses Ale Room. It really is funny that I love pubs so much, as I neither like beer or wine, but I do love a good pub. I find the food is always excellent, and I generally love the atmosphere as well. This one was no exception, in fact I think it is my favorite pub of all, plus it is pretty close to a movie theater so that is just a nice little bonus for when we want to do dinner and a movie!

See you next month, with lots of summer recipes and shenanigans!

Ginger Beef BowlLast night we finally got to see the Avengers! So exciting! It was amazing, and that ends my review because I don’t want to give away anything to you all who haven’t seen it yet, except this, The Hulk was Awesome! Dinner and a movie is my very favorite date, I love eating out, I love movies, combine the two and you have a perfect evening in my opinion. We went to a pub in Millrise for dinner called The Coach and Horses Ale Room. It was a great choice! A huge menu with lots of variety, very friendly wait staff and nice decor. We started with some wngs to share as it was 25 cent wing night. Clarke had the clubhouse sandwich with fries and gravy, I tried out the Ginger Beef Bowl over noodles. Everything was delicious, I think this may even be my new favorite pub!ClubhouseCoach & Horses Ale Room on Urbanspoon
