June Favorites- 2012

The GirlsWow, June was so busy and that made it fly by. We had a ballet recital(that’s our girls ready to go above), our 14th wedding anniversary,Sho Father’s Day in Banff, a quick trip to Drumheller,  plus our son got his purple belt in Aikido. So proud of him! It was a month filled with great times, plus the end of another school year, and we are all happy to be on this very needed summer break!

On to the month of great eats~

CookiesBest Baking- No contest here, although we did have some really yummy stuff but the Almond-Toffee Chocolate Chip Cookies were really amazing. Couldn’t stop eating them….seriously!

pizzaBest Cooking- Was actually the Prosciutto Pizza that I made for this month’s Secret Reipe Club. I loved the tanginess that was added by the addition of the balsamic vinegar. I think I might start dipping a lot more of my pizza in Balsamic Vinegar!

Harvest CafeBest Dining Out- Was the Harvest Cafe in Canmore. It could have been because it was my first invite for a restaurant review, could have benn because the food was so delicious, could have been because I got a rare lunch during the week date with hubby. Who knows, but we had an amazing time!

Harvest Cafe- Canmore

Harvest CafeYesterday I had the absolute pleasure to eat at The Harvest Cafe in Canmore. It is an absolutely adorable little cafe set in the middle of town, they serve soup, sandwiches, desserts and what looked like a tasty little breakfast menu. However we were there for lunch, so the eggs we did not try, we did however eat soup and sandwiches until ready to burst. My poor delicious cauliflower soup didn’t even get finished because I was just plain too full. I started the meal with a creamy hot chocolate. It was a drizzly rainy day so I was happy to warm up while we waited for our food to come. Then was the meal, I had a chicken and brie wrap, it was served with a delicious cranberry mayo and a cup of cauliflower herb soup on the side. The sandwich was quite flavorful, cheesy goodness abounded, and the cranberry mayo was the a perfectly matched little jolt of flavor. My husband had the Canmore specialty Grizzly Paw Root Beer to start, I stole some, it was great. Then the b.l.t and tomato soup , all was good, he said his meal was just perfect. We both liked that the mayo actually came on the side as a dip instead of on the sandwich , really nice touch! Overall, I would say if you are ever in Canmore this is a restaurant that you simply must try!

Thanks to Ryan and Jessie at the Harvest Cafe for a wonderful dining experience.

April Favorites- 2011

BanffIs it just me or is time flying by? We are usually close to being done homeschooling by now but it looks like we will be doing another month in May. Not quite finished, probably because we took off a week for Disney in February, and a week at Easter, ah well, one more month I can do. April was pretty much filled with books and more books so nothing really exciting to report here, besides some pretty fabulous eats of course!

Root Beer Float CakeBest Baking- This was definitely the Root Beer Float Cake courtesy of The Brown Eyed Baker. One of the most moist cakes I have ever made, makes me want to check out all her other recipes!

Tomato Spinach PastaBest Cooking- MMMM….Pasta, I really should go back and look at the previous months because a lot of them probably are pasta, the most delicious carb ever! The whole family loved this recipe, the Tomato and Spinach Pasta Toss. It was easy and delicious!

The Rose and CrownBest Dining Out- My wonderful husband surprised me at the beginning of the month with a night away in Canmore, so the best dining out award goes to The Rose and Crown in Canmore for three reasons, first of all it was a surprise and I love surprises, secondly, it was a pub and generally I love pub food, secondly it was a British pub and as I have always wanted to visit England but have not yet had the chance, I will take little bits of it wherever I can find it.

That’s it for April, stay tuned on May 7th I will be posting a fabulous grilled cheese recipe for Crazy Cooking Challenge, and Secret Recipe club is coming up on May 21st!
